I am skinny, do I still need to exercise?

Exercise is a must for everyone, regardless of weight, to achieve optimal wellness and at minimum maintain health. As we age, we lose muscle mass. From the age of 30, our bodies quit growing muscle mass.
In fact muscle mass begins deteriorating around age 30 and the only way to reverse that process is to strength train several times each week. Anyone at any age can strength train. Studies have shown that 80 and 90 year olds benefit from strength training.
However, if you have never strength trained, especially if you wish to learn how to lift weight or use strength training machines, meet with a personal trainer or fitness professional to learn proper form and techniques. This will protect you from injuries and teach you healthy, life-long methods and allow you to progress at an appropriate speed. (personal trainer)

Strength resistance training offers the following benefits:

bullet Increases muscle mass
bullet Reduces body mass (may weigh the same but still be smaller in size)
bullet Additional muscle burns more calories (so you can eat more)
bullet Prevents or minimizes osteoporosis (actually builds bone mass)
bullet Provides increased energy throughout the day
bullet Provides a sense of power and well being
