My child is a picky eater. How can I get him to eat more fruits and vegetables?

This question has plagued parents for centuries! Children are sometimes resistant to eating the foods that are good for them. Here are a few suggestions to encourage healthy eating habits that include a variety of fruits and vegetables.
bulletDo not force your child to eat foods they don't like. This upsets them and they develop negative feelings that will surface every time that food is placed in front of them.
bulletIntroduce new foods several times, prepared different ways, and encourage your child to taste it.
bulletIntroduce your child to many foods while they are young (after six months of age) so they get used to eating a variety of different flavors.
bulletYoung children usually prefer individual foods to a mixture of foods. Mixing vegetables into casseroles to get them to eat them seldom works.
bulletLimit in-between meal snacks to healthy foods like fruits, vegetables and cheese. Also limit snacks just before mealtime. Children are less likely to try new foods and eat dinner if they are not hungry.
