Will a low carbohydrate, high protein diet help me lose weight?

High protein, low carbohydrate diets are under great debate today and little has been researched as to their long term success.  Many studies have indicated that these diets result in immediate weight loss, however, much of the weight loss in the first week to ten days is due to water loss.

Nutrition experts are most concerned with the negative health effects of too much protein and saturated fat that constitutes these diets.  Many studies have shown that too much protein may result in kidney stones, bone loss, and development of cardiovascular disease.
