Which people need the fewest servings from the Food Guide Pyramid?

The elderly, small framed individuals and inactive people need the fewest calories and the fewest servings from the Food Guide Pyramid.
As we age, we lose muscle and we burn fewer calories. Small framed individuals usually have less muscle and therefore burn fewer calories. Inactive people don't need extra calories for activities. They will all use fewer calories.
Anyone who is bedridden or confined to a wheelchair may need fewer calories, too. It is important to have a dietetics professional or physician determine their calorie needs so they don't consume too many calories. They can gain weight very quickly because of inactivity and it will be difficult to lose any extra weight.
